CHARLIE W.

I arrived home from South Carolina during the winter of 2004 and started up school again that following January at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. Having not made a dime in two years I came home very worried about my money situation and being able to stay financially self-sufficient. I did not wish to be a burden on anyone when it came to money. My older brother Zach, who had been a sales rep and team leader for Bulwark the previous two summers, being aware of this, let me “tag along” with him on a Bulwark off-season activity and there began my association with pest control. My brother had spoken very highly of the company and his interactions with the owners. At the time I was very skeptical of summer sales and all the “hype” surrounding the industry. I ignorantly felt that the only way one could be successful in sales was to compromise his values; to do “whatever it takes” to get the sale. But knowing that my brother had been successful each summer and had positive things to say about the company I softened up to the idea of involving myself with summer sales. I figured, if you can’t trust your brother, who can you trust?! I met often with Bulwark expressing my desire and confidence in being a sales rep. for them. However, because of my transportation situation (or lack thereof) at the time and my having started the interviewing process so late in the year, most of the sales positions for the company had already been filled. So I swallowed my pride, knowing that I wanted to be a part of this company, and spent my first summer in our new office in Atlanta as a technician. It was a great learning experience and even as a technician I earned enough to get me through the next year of school. This last summer I was hired on again as a rookie rep. and got to work side-by-side with my older brother in Phoenix, AZ and had a great experience. The two things I have been most impressed with about Bulwark is the quality of employees that they hire on and the very personalized training that is provided. When its 115 degrees all day every day for weeks on end and you’ve had a few slow days on the doors, moral can get pretty low if you let it. But I was surrounded by, not just great sales reps., but some of the best people I’ve ever met, who were very motivated and ethical in their sales approach. In any situation in life, but especially in summer sales, who you surround yourself with is critical to your own success. Plus, with the companies subject-specific training DVD’s and one on one training from the owners, who are some of the biggest names in the pest control industry, the learning curve was greatly reduced and potential for improvement is monumental. I have learned more about myself, my skills and abilities, how to communicate with and influence people, and how to exude confidence in any social situation in the summers working for Bulwark than in all the other jobs I have ever held combined. I have benefited greatly from my association with Bulwark and feel that anyone else can too who puts forth the time and energy, and shows a willingness to step out of their comfort zone and try new things.

BULWARK EMPLOYEE COMMENTS
I came to Bulwark in 2001 hoping for a good summer job, but ended up with a career. By working full time in the summer, I can make enough money to pay for school and support my new family throughout the year. I’ve found Bulwark to provide the best ...
